Bang! Bang!

Nightmare 1.17.2018

I go to my dialysis treatment, like I do every other day, like I have for the past four years. During this treatment, I am given a lunch break, which I spend sitting in my Jeep. Out of the woods behind the clinic, comes a man and a woman. The woman walks several steps behind the man. The man walks in a suspicious manner. Like he's been taking speed. The way in which he walks and the look of his face reminds me of someone I worked with several years ago. A man who unsettled me. A man whose cogs weren't all spinning at the same tempo. A man who openly told me that he beat his wife and laughed about it. No remorse appearing on his drugged face.

I watch the couple in the darkened parking lot walk past my Jeep and toward the McDonald's and gas station. Not long after that, I return to treatment. I can't help but acknowledge a creeping thought in my mind that I will see the man from the parking lot again. But this time in a more troubling fashion.

My seat in the clinic is facing a window to the outside. The window looks out to an apartment complex. The apartment building is very close to the clinic, only fifteen feet or so. Something dramatic is happening in one of the apartments. A small crowd gathers at the front door. Someone is having a medical emergency. I expect to see an ambulance at any time. My nurse has told me that I will have a short treatment today due to the holiday. I won't put up a fuss over that.

I see the man from the parking lot. He walks in front of a window in the clinic, puts a gun to his chin, aimed up and pulls the trigger. Everyone in the clinic witnesses his death. A new girl at the clinic walks near me and I tell her to take me off of the machine, to end my treatment. She tells me that she won't do that because I just started. This pisses me off because I know that I've been running for at least two hours and the nurse told me it would be a short treatment. I continue arguing with the new girl elevating my discourse to cussing. She refuses.

A police officer walks next to my chair, raises a shotgun at the patient behind me and shoots. I know I am next. Somehow, I manage to unhook myself from the machine and get free. I don't think I am shot. Dream ends.

On The Rocks

Dream 10/28/2017

We are in a stadium. Some friends are up in the stands. I've come down to the floor to search for money. There is a big maple tree on the main floor. Around it's base is a layer of old, composted leaves. I dig through the leaves and find a quarter. Enthusiastically, I catch my friends attention from the stands and show them what I've found. I continue digging. I dig down deep. I feel something. I think it is several quarters. I pull it up. In my hands are several minerals and gem rocks. They are shaved as if taken to a saw mill. They are heavy. If I learned anything from Jurassic Park it is this. If they are heavy, they are expensive. On the rocks, I notice price tags. One is $400.00. Another is $4000.00. I've hit a gold mine.

The President of the United States's office is right outside the stadium. I walk into the Oval office and find John F. Kennedy sitting there. I show the president what I have found. I think I'm hoping that since he is such a powerful man, he can pay me. A man walks into the office in a fury. I believe he is either a former president or in line to be president. He is angry at JFK. He and the president exit the office to have an argument.

When the office is empty, several teenagers and young adults come into the office. They are told that they cannot be here. In a whiny manner, one girl yells, "it's a free country!" I walk outside to a parking lot. I see JFK and the man arguing in a car. It's getting heated. I don't know if I should interrupt them or not about the kids in the office. I walk back into the Oval. Now the kids are taking things from the office. One girl takes the presidents chair. I walk over to where I laid the expensive rocks. Half of them are missing! I run out to where the argument is taking place. "Mr. President," I start, "people are stealing things from your office!"

JFK exits the car. He walks furiously toward his office. He takes the long way. When we get to his office, it is completely empty. Dream ends.

Pillow Fight

Dream 2/4/17

After a high school basketball game, I decide to follow the team to a fast food restaurant. When we finish eating, the coaches stand up and announce that it's time to load up the buses. "Only the sports team members stand up and head toward the bus," they say. 97% of the restaurant stands up. Only two others and I am left alone. Once again I am left out of the action of the moment. Story of my life. Anyway, eventually I walk out to the parking lot. On the way to my Jeep, I see a pillow that I own lying on the ground. I walk over and pick it up. Right then, my neighbor Joe walks over to me and confronts me about taking his pillow. "uh.. no, this is my pillow," I say back to him. "no man, I had that pillow like ten years ago," Joe responds. I tell him that I had it most recently, I use it for dialysis every other day. Eventually we go our separate ways, me taking my pillow with me. Dream ends.

Aluminum Bird

Dream 1/27/2015

I'm in a mini van that is full to the brim with people.

We are coming back from the beach. The driver is a woman named Carla. I am not fond of Carla. We do not get along.

Somewhere along the ride, we get into an argument. It gets so heated that I tell her I am going to shave her stupid hair when she is asleep. She stops the van. Three of us exit the vehicle.

We make our way to the airport to make other arrangements for travel. The other two make it to their plane but the pilot of my plane wants a permission slip. Angry, I tell her that I am twenty-five years old. She tells me that I will have to ride back in the mini van.

I am distraught. I think about how my two friends get a nice plane ride home while I have to endure hours with the woman I insulted and the people who witnessed it.

Suddenly, the pilot has a change of heart. She tells me that I can board the plane. She sits me in a wheel chair and ties me up. We board the aluminum bird. Dream ends
